Over 6,000 cases of product were donated to ten different charities, foundations or community groups during 2009, equating to nearly 44,000 packets of product. Among those who received these donations were Foodbank NSW and WA, Coast Shelter, The Exodus Foundation and Oz Harvest.
Sharing food in times of distress – Victorian bushfires 2009
Sanitarium joined forces with Mars Foods and Linfox to provide immediate relief to those affected by the Victorian bushfires. With the help of Linfox, who supplied a truck and two drivers; and Mars Foods, who donated 12 pallets of product, Sanitarium sent 24 pallets of product including Weet-Bix, Cornflakes, Ricies, So Good, Peanut Butter, UP&GO and Weet-Bix Multi-Grain Bites.
The foods were sent to bushfire relief centres across the state, and our Melbourne Sales team also distributed product directly to those in need.
Sanitarium also provided breakfast for 220 displaced children in Victoria for the week of the bushfire crisis.
In response to the special bushfire appeal, Sanitarium employees gave generously through payroll donations and collections. A total of $2,535.90 was raised by our employees and matched by the Company to an overall total of $5,071.80.
Distressed animals sustained on Weet-Bix
Two tonnes of Weet-Bix off-cuts were sent to an animal shelter in Victoria. The shelter was caring for native animals who sustained injuries as a result of the bushfires.
