Our response to the Australian bushfire crisis

As bushfires continue to threaten and devastate communities across south-eastern Australia, many of you are asking what Sanitarium is doing to help.

Since mid-December we have been donating UP&GO to the NSW Rural Fire Service and just yesterday we provided a further donation – more than 40 pallets of UP&GO have now been sent to support the heroic fire fighters in NSW. We have contacted the VIC Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the SA Country Fire Service (CFS) with the same offer to provide UP&GO for their fire fighters.

This week we delivered 30 pallets of Weet-Bix, UP&GO and So Good to Foodbank Australia for distribution to the many relief agencies working on the frontline of this crisis. We’re also providing Sanitarium products directly to ADRA, who have people on the ground in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, supporting the thousands of people impacted by fire. We are in awe of the incredible work of these agencies and the amazing people powering them, many of them volunteers.

We are in the midst of this crisis and recovery will take a very long time. The widespread destruction is bewildering. This week we’ll be working through the many individual requests for support that have come through since Christmas, however our primary focus is remaining responsive to the immediate needs of fire services and our relief agency partners.

If you would personally like to help, the Australian Red Cross, Foodbank Australia and ADRA have called for financial donations. You can also contact your local fire brigade and make a donation directly. If you want to donate food, check with Foodbank NSW/ACTFoodbank VIC and Foodbank SA on their specific grocery item needs and collection points.
